April 1, 2011

Hello April! I can’t say you snuck up on me because I really thought you started yesterday (oops, I guess I was really excited about this upcoming blogging challenge).   And now of course, today is April Fool’s Day and so it’s only a matter of time until one of my coworkers plays a cruel joke on me.  Oh, lord.  It’s going to be a long day.  The long day already started when Price is Right played a cruel joke on me, and models ran into set equipment, lights dropped from the sky, and the televisions wouldn’t show the contestants their vacations.  Oh and did I mention the set caught on fire, and full on extinguishers had to be brought out?  At least, if you’re going to play with this kind of trickery, send some smokin’ hot firemen to put out the fire (pun intended).
I’m still really hoping that the giraffe of tiny proportions created on some random Russian Farm isn’t a joke.  It’s on one of these commercials or another, but now real people can own them.  It’ll be like having a small percentage of the jungle in your house.  My nephew will want to follow it around stomping like they’re in the Jungle Book.  If I can’t have one, or this is some really mean joke, I’ll be semi-devastated.  I really want to own a tiny giraffe and watch its’ tiny legs walk around my tiny studio apartment (that I’ll have hopefully in six months).  I feel like the villian(x2) in Despicable Me talking to his little tiny toilet… (yes, ask yourself how many movies I can mention in one paragraph – it’s a lot).
April should be a pretty exciting month in my life, it’s either going to be exciting, or make me want to exile myself to another foreign country for a year.  I hope I’m showered in graduate school acceptance letters rather than April showers…fingers crossed!
In case you were wondering – April is the month of my father’s 75th birthday (he’s pre-industrial, I know), a month where I have a ton of hours at work (Thank Goodness, I need the money), the month where I should know for sure if & where I’ll be attending graduate school, the month of Easter, the month of rain, rain, go away and a perfect month for a little childhood hopscotch that I will most definitely be partaking in.  (Someone needs to bring the skip-it back for ’11 April).   To start it April off right…here’s a little poem:

Edna St. Vincent Millay, “Spring”

“To what purpose, April, do you return again?
Beauty is not enough.
You can no longer quiet me with the redness
Of little leaves opening stickily.
I know what I know.
The sun is hot on my neck as I observe
The spikes of the crocus.
The smell of the earth is good.
It is apparent that there is no death.
But what does that signify?
Not only under ground are the brains of men
Eaten by maggots.
Life in itself
Is nothing,
An empty cup, a flight of uncarpeted stairs.
It is not enough that yearly, down this hill,
Comes like an idiot, babbling and strewing flowers.”

I love the giraffe in those commercials. I had to go look up the site after reading what you said about them for sale. That is too funny.
